For Immediate Release – Thursday 5th March 2026
The Walking Cricket Association Launches to Support Individual Participation and National Festivals
The Walking Cricket Association (WCA) officially launches on Thursday 5th March 2026, providing a national framework to support the continued growth of walking cricket across the UK and internationally.
Created to reflect the way walking cricket is delivered in most regions — via hubs, clubs, community sessions and informal groups rather than traditional club structures — the Association places individual participation at its core.
Walking cricket has grown significantly in recent years, offering a more accessible format of the game for adults seeking to remain active, return to cricket, or participate in a lower-impact environment.
The Walking Cricket Association has been formed to:
• Provide a clear national identity for walking cricket
• Support hubs, clubs and county boards to expand the game
• Offer individual membership open to all participants
• Establish a nationally recognised set of rules
• Establish national and international franchise-based competitions and festivals
• Promote inclusivity, accessibility and enjoyment of the game
Unlike traditional cricket structures, WCA events and competitions will operate on an individual registration and selection basis. Players will join as members and will be invited into franchise teams for national festivals and representative events. Hubs & Clubs are also welcome to join if they would like all their members to have access.
This model reflects the current landscape across the UK, where walking cricket is predominantly hub-based rather than club-based in many counties.
Individual membership is set at £10 per year and club/hub membership at £100 per year, helping to:
• Support national coordination
• Provide event access
• Build a connected national network
• Promote shared standards and best practice
Clubs and hubs across the country — including those in Surrey, Berkshire and emerging regions — are invited to align as recognised delivery centres within the Walking Cricket Association network.
The Association also welcomes dialogue with County Cricket Boards, leisure providers, community trusts and overseas groups running walking cricket initiatives.
Darren Talbot pioneer of Walking Cricket from 2014 and heading up the Walking Cricket Association said:
“Walking cricket has grown organically across the country, often outside traditional club structures. The Walking Cricket Association exists to support that reality — placing individuals at the centre while recognising the vital role hubs and counties play in delivery.
Our aim is to create a supportive, inclusive national framework that allows the format to flourish.”
