Preparing for a Busy 2026 in Surrey & Beyond

GENERAL NEWS

Happy New Year from Twenty20 Community Cricket.

While many clubs slowed down over the festive period, we’ve been working throughout Christmas to lay the foundations for an exciting and ambitious 2026, with community cricket activity across Surrey, nationally and internationally.

Indoor Cricket and Community Leagues in Surrey

The spring term focuses on completing the indoor cricket season and organising fixtures for the summer programme. A major milestone arrives on 11 January with the launch of the Surrey Girls Under 14 Indoor Cricket League.

This marks the first Women & Girls league we have delivered in partnership with the Surrey Cricket Foundation, and we hope it will be the first of many inclusive cricket competitions for young players in the county.

Based at Esher High School, the six-week league features teams from East Molesey, Esher, Weybridge, the MCC Foundation and our own Twenty20 Community Cricket Academy. The competition reflects our commitment to growing girls’ cricket and grassroots cricket opportunities across Surrey.

The Men’s Indoor League will conclude later this month, with regional and potentially national rounds to follow for the Surrey winners.

Meanwhile, our Junior Indoor Leagues continue until March at Downsend School in Leatherhead. Alongside this, we will be running Braver Minds intra-Academy cricket matches in January and again during February half-term, supporting confidence, wellbeing and development through cricket.

International Cricket Opportunities in 2026

Internationally, 2026 promises to be a landmark year for Twenty20 Community Cricket.

In July, we have been invited to enter a women’s team into the Prague Challenger Women’s Cup, and early interest suggests we have sufficient players to represent the Academy overseas once again.

Later this month we will be making a coaching trip once again to our friends in Switzerland, Gingins CC, for a weekend coaching their junior players just outside Geneva.

February sees our men’s teams travel to Vienna for the Winter Cup indoor tournament. Later in the spring term, we return for the Spring Cup Boys’ Competition, featuring teams from Austria, Czechia and Norway, alongside our own Academy side.

Also in Vienna, we will host the Summer Cup Walking Cricket Tournament (50+) in June. Walking Cricket was invented by our Managing Director, Darren, and continues to grow rapidly across the UK. In Surrey alone, more than 20 clubs are expected to be participating by 2026.

The international programme concludes in October with the expanded Autumn Cup Women & Girls Tournament, a three-day competition taking place during the October half-term and we expect to field two Academy teams.

Summer Community Cricket Fixtures in Surrey

Planning for our summer community cricket programme is already under way. We currently have home venues confirmed at Ripley, Wonersh, Westcott, Old Woking and Worplesdon & Burpham cricket clubs, with one further ground expected to be confirmed early in the New Year.

Full fixtures for the 2026 season will be published on our website in late March or early April.

The traditionally quiet period between Christmas and New Year has allowed us to bring all of this planning together, and we’re excited to begin another year of inclusive, grassroots cricket across Surrey and beyond.image-13.jpeg
