Surrey Slam Schools - State School Academies
Sponsored by the Denis Jacobs Youth Cricket Trust
Set up in 2017, the Surrey Slam Schools regional state school hubs are set up to give young cricketers additional coaching & matches to supplement cricket at their clubs and to help close the gap between them and independently educated peers and opponents who, we estimate, receive around 100 hours more cricket each year.
We are supporting players to play even more cricket with nearly 100 potential hours for hard ball players across the year. We believe this will give young cricketers the best chance to improve their game and create a lifelong interest in cricket.
Over the past 4 years, we have seen nearly 1,000 young cricketers involved in the programme, many joining a cricket club for the first time and others having gone on to attain county recognition.
Training starts in September indoors at regional hubs across Surrey and South West London. It goes on until Easter (excluding some school holidays) with weekly sessions for under 12-14 groups and fortnightly for U9-U11 hard ball and U7-U9 softball players.
Players in year 4 and above also have access to up to two weeks school holiday coaching at a 50% discount - worth £175 if booking two 5-day weeks – and there is a series of hard ball matches across the summer on midweek evenings. The match programme is designed so players can still play for and train with their clubs. It is important that this programme is additional to club and we encourage anyone in the programme not at a club to join one.
Each player will also receive a personalised Twenty20 Cricket Academy coloured shirt, trousers and cap for training and matches.
We have two regional Academies which sit above the Surrey Slam Schools and stronger players will have the opportunity to be invited into these the following years.
Payments are split to make the programme as financially accessible as possible.
Please note, the programme is a whole year commitment as soon as the first payment is made.
If you would like to take part, but the payments are a challenge, please let us know.
