Twenty20 Cricket Academy - Continuing to make a difference

The Twenty20 Cricket Academy continues to go from strength to strength offering young cricketers in Surrey the chance to develop their cricket across the winter with training and indoor matches.

Over the summer there will also be opportunities for the older players (U13+) to play adult cricket with us either in our Surrey Downs Saturday League team or on a Sunday afternoon in our adult 2nd XI team. These are key opportunities to get players comfortable with and used to adult cricket, so they are ready to play for their own clubs when places become available in adult teams. Both teams are led on the pitch by our coaching team sometimes supporting a younger captain.

Our youngest players will have the chance to play T20 evening matches midweek around their club training & match commitment with the aim of doubling the amount of matches they play each summer.

All of the above is topped off by two Intra-Academy weeks and a UK tour for the older players in August so the cricket keeps on coming throughout the summer.

At both training venues in the east & west of Surrey, our 143 Academy members work with our coaching team led by level 3 coach, Robin Maslin and overseen by former Iceland National team head coach and former Sierra Leone Head of Cricket and Chairman of Selectors, Darren Talbot.

This year has also seen the launch of our first girls Academy in the west of the county. Our East Surrey Girls Academy opens in September 2023.

In the autumn over 10% of our Academy members were successful in county assessments and will continue training with us alongside their county sessions this spring.

There are still places for young cricketers in the west of the county in school years 6-8 to start in January.

All the details can be found on our website.
