Egham/Chertsey U12 move top
Egham/Chertsey's combined under 12s moved to the top of the Surrey Slam Junior Indoor Cricket League under 12 competition with a narrow win over Twenty20 Cricket Academy "D" team.
The Academy fell just 12 runs short chasing 115 to win with 2 wickets in had. Egham/Chertsey's 114 all out ironically was underpinned by Twenty20 Academy player James Pearson who made 40 not out and Jake Pooley, son of former Middlesex player Jason Pooley, who scored 34. Siddarth Pillai starred with the ball for the Twenty20 Cricket Academy taking 2-16 off 2 overs.
In reply, Matt Andrews (24) and Max Corney (21no) got the Academy off to a great start but tight bowling from Egham/Chertsey meant they just couldn't get the run rate up high enough to overtake the total.
In the under 14 competition, Weybridge broke their duck, beating Ewell CC for a place in the play-offs. Ewell made 78-5 off their 12 overs but Weybridge knocked them off for the loss of no wickets in the 9th over.
Ryan Handy's 33 not out helped get his side up towards a competitive total but Henry Francis's 2-3 and Rhys Jones with 2-9 proved too strong for this team mates.
Tom Gardner's 29 retired not out and 38 extras proved enough to see Weybridge safely home.
