Surrey Indoor League: Wimbledon and Spencer fight to the last ball of most thrilling Final in years!
After 4 months, and starting out with 23 clubs, Wimbledon CC and Spencer CC were the final 2 teams standing. There had been 99 matches to this point....the 100th would decide who would be Surrey Indoor Champions!
With a big turnout in the viewing area, and hundreds tuned in to our Facebook Live feed, the two local rivals thrashed out one of the tensest games ever seen in a sports hall! This hour-long tussle proved that indoor cricket can be as enthralling as many outdoor games!
Innings 1
Wimbledon won the toss, and after some deliberation, opted to bowl. They have had the luxury of being tested over the season as both target-setters and target-chasers. Would the experience of successful chases in the last 2 rounds pay off?
The first over set the tone for the entire Spencer innings - all action! There was rarely a dull ball in an innings that seemed to be set to "fast forward".
In pursuit of a lower-than-usual score, Wimbledon had one hand on the Indoor League trophy. However, as the evening progressed, and a little fatigue set in, every run appeared twice as difficult to come by - a low score being fiercely defended by an inspired Spencer bowling attack.
Early wickets caused nerves to jangle, before Eric Anand steadied the Wimbledon ship. But breakthroughs never looked far away.
This game - against all odds at halfway - went to the wire, Watch below to see how it ended!
What happens next?!
The Surrey Champions will go on to compete against the Kent Indoor Champions. We wish them the very best of luck, in hopefully making it all the way through to the National Finals - held at Lords in March.
