Academy Start with Imposing performance
The Twenty20 Academy opened their junior indoor league fixtures last week with an emphatic win against Epsom CC. having lost the toss and been asked to field first the Twenty20 couldn’t have asked for a better start having Epsom 1-2 at the end of the first over, one wicket from a smart piece of fielding from captain Tiam Afar, the other a beautiful piece of owing from Sam Felton-Smith to dislodge the off bail. Economical bowling from Scott Hooton keep up the pressure on the Epsom batters, allowing the leg spin on Nithinjun Kumar to pick up three wickets at the other end. A final run-out ended the Epsom innings at 49 from 8 overs.
The Twenty20 response started steadily, but a close run-out and the LBW of Matt Cormack left the Academy at 20 for 2. However the steady batting of Tiam mixed with the powerful striking of Hooton ( three 6’s) eased any early nerves and saw the Academy chase down their target in six over, to with by 4 wickets.
Not a bad start to the season for Twenty20 who had only had one training session together before this round of match. Let’s hope that there I more of the same in the coming weeks.
