Summer has barely come to a close, but the keenest cricketers are already looking ahead to the 2017 season. And for a few, the season never has to end at all! The Surrey Men's Indoor Cricket League begins next week!
We are into our 3rd year of staging the Surrey Indoor League, with the participating teams growing each season. Many clubs have been involved since the beginning, with some healthy rivalries developing.
This year we are happy to be welcoming 8 new clubs to the competition. We wish them the very best of luck, as they get to grips with the different challenge indoor cricket throws up.
Last season:
The 2015/16 season involved many thrilling matches. The eventual winners were Thursley CC, beating Hampton Wick Royal CC in a low-scoring final. Twenty20 Cricket added GoPro video footage to the experience, to allow players to watch over their best (or worst) moments.
Look out for:
Spencer v Wimbledon: the 2 previous match-ups between these neighbouring clubs have been among the best in the league's short history - high scoring and dramatic. Both times, the chasers faltered, then recovered to win in the final overs. 1 win a-piece between these close rivals indoors and outdoors.
Wimbledon v Old Tenisonians: 2 contrasting teams. Wimbledon are a fantastic, attacking team, close to unbeatable on their day. But OT's have been their nemesis in the last 2 years. Their combination of teamwork and inspired fielding undid the hosts in 2015. Will 2016 be different?
Dorking v Horsley & Send: Dorking's youth comes up against H&S's experience in the Surrey Central Division. Dorking have become well known for giving the teenagers in their team a central role. With a season of indoor experience under their belts, they will give Horsley a stern test.
