Last ball thriller sees Switzerland Under 11s edged tour match at Effingham

Effingham CC Under 11’s v Switzerland’s National Under 11 touring side.

On Sunday (8th May 2016), Effingham CC Under 11’s entertained the Switzerland national Under 11 touring side from Switzerland in what turned out to be a super game which went down to the last ball.
The Swiss Under 11’s were on their last day of their tour to the UK, which had seen them playing six games in four days in the Surrey area.
Batting first, Effingham Under 11s scored 128, losing only two wickets in their 20 overs. Three boys, Harry Amer, Isaac Keay and Jake Raffaelli, all batted well to reach their permitted 20 before retiring - Jake’s innings included two sixes! Other notable scores came from Raymond Wing with 13 and Thomas Stratten with 12.
The Swiss Under 11’s started well and like Effingham, only lost two wickets in reaching the 100 mark, with four boys retiring after reaching 20.
The Swiss team continued to keep the runs flowing, but with only 6 runs needed in the last over, things got very tense when two run-outs brought the scores level for the last ball.
In a nail-biting finish, the Switzerland Under 11’s managed to scramble the single required to win a most enjoyable and exciting game by one run.
Credit to both teams and sets of players for a great game played in the spirit cricket should be played.
Thanks also to Effingham CC for kindly agreeing to play and host the fixture and Switzerland Under 11s on their tour.
