Germany Women beat Italian Women in Bilateral Series

The German women’s team set out to play a bilateral series against Italy Women, one of our most competitive opponents, in Bologna from May 6-8.

The series consisted of two T20s and one 40 over game. After the long travel to Bologna, the girls had a session of training before the first game on Friday. Germany won the toss and elected to bat. After a good start by M. Daub (10) and S. Mannan (16), A. Doddaballapur (34*) and M. Theron (17) kept the scoreboard ticking. Germany put up a final score of 113 for the Italians to chase. The first Italian wicket fell at 40 runs with a catch in M. Beresford’s over. The Italian women lost successive wickets from then on, exceptional fielding by the German side led to 6 run outs. At 99/5 after 19 overs, S. McAnanama-B. was left with 14 runs to defend in the last over. With another two run outs and a bowled on the last ball, Germany defeated Italy by 10 runs. The day ended with a joint dinner with the Italians.

A 40 over match was scheduled for Saturday. Germany lost the toss and fielded first, where Italy managed to score 187 at the end of 40 overs. They lost 9 wickets, great fielding skills exhibited by the German team aided S. Mayenborg, S. McAnanama-B. and D. Mix in taking 2 wickets each. Additionally, S. Frohnmayer and M. Brauser claimed one wicket each. In the next innings, Germany lost 2 early wickets, but managed to stabilize with A. Doddaballapur (29) and M. Theron (15) at the crease. The middle and lower order batsmen pitched in a few runs, with M. Brauser scoring 10 runs. However, Germany didn’t manage to chase the target and were all out for 126 in the 30th over.
