Twenty20 Cricket Academy Under 12s suffer defeat at Farnham

The Twenty20 Cricket Academy Under 12s were in action at the weekend and were on the wrong end of a defeat against a useful Farnham Under 11s side.

Farnham Under 11s - 232/7 off 30.0 overs

Twenty20 Cricket Academy Under 12s - 136/10 off 26.2 overs

Farnham Under 11 won by 96 runs

Farnham won the toss and elected to bat first on a sunny Sunday afternoon in south Surrey, and started brightly, racing to 30-1 inside the first 4 overs. Jonathan Sturch-Hibbit picking up the early wicket.

Despite a lack of wickets, the T20Academy managed to gain some control in the game. The home team had reached 137-3 at the half way stage with more tight bowling from Sturch-Hibbit (1-13) and captain Alex Cormack (0-22) from their allotted overs.

T20Academy continued to create chances during the second half of the innings but a mixture of good batting and the odd bad ball meant Farnham were able to post a very healthy total of 232-7 from their 30 overs, despite Joshil Patel and Ben Ware bowling well at the death.

Farnham’s innings was led by excellent unbeaten contributions from Angus Watson and Harry Morrogh with 50 retired and 52 retired respectively. Ethan Gubby also adding an unbeaten 24 lower down the order.

That target was always going to be a tough total to chase for a developing T20 Academy side however Freddie Ferro provided a determined anchor to the innings scoring a very credible 33 before being the penultimate wicket to fall.

A steady fall of wickets throughout the innings saw batsmen come and go, however each was able to secure some valuable time at the crease.

Cormack showed moments of his counter attacking best with a flurry of well struck boundaries. Sturch and Patel both also showing their all-round potential with useful boundaries and touch play towards the end of the innings to give the T20 Academy total a credible look about it, finishing on 136 when the final wicket fell with a few overs remaining.
