Cricket Growing in Sweden
New to Jönköping University this term is a cricket team, led by the PhD student Muhammad Ismail. The University has a lot of students from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, South Africa and Australia and so there is a latent demand for cricket.
In Sweden there are now around 50 teams participating in the National League and Stockholm is also hosting the European Division 2 tournament this summer.
Muhammad Ismail has been studying in Jönköping for about six years and is now doing his PhD in software engineering. Two years ago he started Jönköping Cricket Association and the association now has about 35 members.
Muhammad's plan is to create a combined team with the students and the non-students. He wants to promote cricket in Jönköping to get more players but his main focus is on the students.
