Wimbledon CC make Finals stage in Surrey ECB Mens Indoor League

Wimbledon CC got 2016 off to a fine start by progressing to the Finals stage of the Surrey ECB Mens Indoor League County Play-offs.

They came up against Dorking CC in their Play-off eliminator and got forward to the last four after a convincing five wicket victory.

Dorking batted first and were bowled out 89 (for 6) in 11.4 overs. Charlie Kenway top scored with 25 with extras accounting for another 33 runs in Dorking’s total. For the Wimbledon attack, Dan Urquhart took 2 for 15 – including a caught and bowled and also having a hand in a run out and taking a catch, in what was an MVP performance for the tie, and Carlton Anand taking 2 for 16.

Wimbledon made short work of chasing down the total as they reached their target in only 8.4 overs. Mark Costin and Max Fernie retired on 25 and 26 not out respectively with Tom Cooper 14 not out.

Wimbledon now go on to face the winners of next Sunday’s Finals Play-off match between AZ Sports and Spencer CC.

There was disappointment to start the evening with the no-show by Guildford City for their match with Horsley & Send CC PFS.

It means the latter also progress to the Finals week on Sunday 17th January where they will face the winners of the game between their Lions counterparts and Hampton Wick Royal CC.
