New Cricket Ground being built in Cyprus
In an exiting development for Cyprus Cricket, the Cyprus Cricket Association has signed a long term lease on a piece of land in Tochni Village - about halfway between Limassol and Larnaca.
Since cricket started on the island in the 1980s, most games have been played on military grounds. When this ground is built around Spring 2016, Cypriot cricketers will have their own ground and facilities for the first time.
Because of limited available funds, the ground development is taking place in stages over the next few years.
The first step is to move trees and flatten the ground which is taking place this month.
Following that will be the laying of two concrete wickets - one to be used as nets on the edge of the ground, the other as the main playing surface. It is hoped that this will also take place this month, weather permitting.
After that a watering system will be installed and, finally, sowing the grass for the outfield.
