Horsley & Send Lions & Epsom get another chance
The Play-Off rounds in the Central section of the Surrey ECB Mens Indoor Cricket League at Downsend School got underway on Sunday, and Horsley and Send CC Lions gave themselves another shot at progressing to the County Finals thanks to victory over Westcott CC.
Batting first, the Lions made 127 for 6 (all out) in 11.2 overs, largely thanks to Vikram Singh making 43 and 55 runs coming in extras.
In reply, Westcott batted through their allotted 12 overs but could only reach 91 for 3 at the close.
Alan Pickering made 26 retired as his side also benefitted from a handsome total of extras with 44 coming their way. Alas Westcott were still some way short, losing by 36 runs.
The other scheduled play-off game between Epsom CC and Dorking CC did not materialise as Epsom unfortunately had to forfeit the tie.
Despite losing their game, Westcott were due to play in the losers play-off game against Epsom. However despite the latter not being present and effectively also forfeiting that game, they have been handed something of a lifeline as Westcott have opted to withdraw from further involvement.
It means Epsom will go forward to the second week of the play-offs on Sunday where they will now face Horsley and Send CC PFS. In the other tie, Horsley and Send CC Lions will do battle against Dorking CC.
The winners of those two matches will progress to the Surrey County Finals in January, whilst the losers of those matches will face each other in the final game of the night to decide the third and final team also going forward from the Central section.
