Twenty20 Community Cricket partners with Sierra Leone Cricket to support High Performance Cricket

Twenty20 Community Cricket is partnering with the Sierra Leone Cricket Association from January 2020 to help develop High Performance players in Sierra Leone and support cricket development at the grassroots level.

Over the next 5 years, Twenty20 Community Cricket will supply coaches for annual coaching camps in Sierra Leone and run remote coaching and development support from their offices in Surrey, England.

Sierra Leone has 342 teams including 275 junior teams and 67 senior teams across the country, involving 5,130 Cricketers, and 400 physical health education teachers to handle new entry level programmes in schools.

Every player in the National Cricket Men’s, Women’s and Under 19s squads will be profiled and supported by Twenty20 Cricket, with the aim of making Sierra Leone National Cricket teams a force to be reckoned with over the coming years.

At the same time, they will be using their 15 years of experience of cricket development in England, to help in supporting Sierra Leone cricket leagues and coaching in schools.

Darren Talbot Managing Director of Twenty20 Community Cricket commented

"We have been involved with Sierra Leone Cricket for a number of years through our sponsorship and support of Kent CC. We now have the opportunity to make a difference nationally and support Sierra Leone Cricket to be a major force in African and World Cricket.”

Former Head Coach of Iceland Cricket and with many years’ experience of coaching at national and club level in Europe, Darren and his team are ideally placed to develop players in Sierra Leone. Darren is also age group lead for Under 10-Under 12 leagues for Surrey Cricket, having been chairman of the largest junior cricket league in the county. He is also Chief Executive Officer of the England Cricket Association for the Deaf Charity.

Darren will be supported by the company’s International Director, Robin Maslin, who has a decade’s experience coaching across Europe.

Beresford Bournes - Coker, Chairman of Sierra Leone Cricket Association said

“Excellence is not a skill, it is an attitude.”
