Switzerland Under 11s impress in tour opening win over Twenty20 Academy
Switzerland’s Under 11 cricketers got their UK tour to Surrey off to a great start with an entertaining victory over the Twenty20 Cricket Academy on Friday evening (6th May)
Twenty20 Cricket Academy Under 11 81/8 off 20.0 overs
Switzerland Under 11 82/6 off 16.5 overs
Switzerland Under 11 won by 5 wickets
The first match on tour at Deando Ruxley CCwas greeted with a perfect evening for our visitors.....the weeks of silent prayers from both sides of the channel had clearly paid off!
Twenty20 won the toss and batted first. They began slowly, but grew stronger as the innings progressed. After Alex Cormack had been bowled just short of 25 (retirement score), the middle order set about increasing the run rate.
James McNamara, Ben Berry and Michael Simonetti were among the batsmen to chip in with useful scores, as all the Swiss bowlers went about their task brilliantly.
The most impressive aspect was their tight bowling, conceding very few wides, made all the more impressive not bad for a side who had just landed in the UK a few hours before.

90 was the set target, a score that Switzerland openers, Kabir Mehta and Ross Hunter, took a large chunk out of in the first 7 overs. Keeping the straight balls out, and caressing any wide balls to the boundary, their performance set a great example to any young cricketers.
As it seemed the game was racing to its end, Twenty20 struck back. After Ben Berry trapped Hunter LBW, Alex Cormack burst through the defence of the batsmen, claiming two wickets of his own. The boys have been training hard all season, and showed great collective spirit to turn things back in their favour.
Despite being shaken, the Swiss batsmen showed character beyond their years, to near the finish line. Gianni ST Hiliare was another key player, with a rapid 20 just when his team needed it. And even after one more minor wobble, Ethan Menadue was there to hit the winning boundary, and seal a 4 wicket victory with just over three overs to spare.

Special mention must go to Twenty20's debutants, including Finlay Suthons......who ended up with two wickets in two balls in his first hard ball match!
