French women in training & match play weekend in Nantes

On 30th and 31st January, French women cricketers were invited to participate in the first weekend "Technical & practice" in Nantes: a new formula to Cricket France for the indoor winter to allow existing players to meet new players.

A day of technical workshops was followed by a day of putting the new skills into practice with a tournament between the different teams. It is the same formula at T20 International use for the majority of our overseas coaching courses.

Players from Nantes, Saumur and Ile de France were present and worked on their fielding through focused workshops: catches, mobility and responsiveness in the field.

All of the players were able, in parallel, to enjoy intensive batting training thanks to the provision of a bowling machine by Nantes Cricket Club.

To finish the first day, the participants were divided into two teams for a friendly match, mixing the levels of the players. It was evident that the technical workshops had already paid dividends, and debutantes such as the young Sophie, who came to Nantes Cricket Club at the end of 2015, played with confidence and success both on the field, bowling or with the bat.

On Sunday, three teams clashed throughout the day with some very intense matches.

The team consisting of Emmanuelle Chauveau (Capt), Irma Vrigneau (wk), Jennifer King, Isabelle Costaz, Beatrice Pierre and Emma Pellet (Mixed Team Nantes CC / Château de Thoiry CC) who won the tournament, including with a top score of 120 runs achieved with very aggressive batting and thinking about their last game.

Jenny King was elected MVP.

For the rest of the day, a game has improvised between a few coaches and players.

There was quite a surprise for the men, who have opened the batting and who were restricted to just 37 runs in 6 overs thanks in particular to the accuracy of the bowling of Isabelle Costaz and several stumpings by wicketkeeper Maelle Cargouët. The men finally prevailed, but only just.

Developing the practice of women in all clubs French is today one of the main focusses of France cricket.

The next weekend "Technical & practice" which will take place in Isle de France on the weekend of 13th and 14th March.
