Spencer CC ease through play-offs

Spencer CC are the third and final team from the Surrey ECB Men's Indoor Cricket League Outer section to make it through to the County Finals in January after victories in the final week of section play-offs.

Having beaten Old Tenisonians CC in the semi-final eliminator, the boys from Spencer beat long time leaders British Tamils Cricket League in the play-off Final to progress a stage further in the New Year.

British Tamils Cricket League had booked their place in the decider by beating Old Rutlishians CC by 40 runs in the first of the two semi-final eliminators.

Batting first, the Tamils made 86 for 6 (all out) with the final wicket falling on the penultimate ball of the innings; S Sornaraj top scored with 37 and Rajeevan Raveendran adding 22 in the face of Ross Trimmings taking 2 for 22

In reply, Old Ruts could only make 46 for 6 (all out) in 7.5 overs. Hussein Khan top scoring with 14 as Dinesh Poobalasingham took 2 for 17.

Spencer CC booked their showdown place with the Tamils by edging a close contest with Old Tenisonians by 6 runs.

Spencer batted first and made 75 for 6 (all out) in 11.3 overs. Cameron Ponsonby top scoring with the bat making 20 and his side were indebted to some 40 runs in extras in their total, as James Varney took 3 for 22 for the Old Tens.

In reply, Old Tenisonians fell just short, making 69 for 6 (all out) in 11.1 overs. Adnan Shan made a top score of 20, but Sameer Khan’s two wickets for four runs in only 2.1 overs went some way to restricting the Old Tens, backed by James Smith’s return of 2 for 19.

So to the Final and it was a surprising low scoring affair.

British Tamils Cricket League batted first and lost wickets at regular intervals, not really recovering from 18 for 2. Their final sixth wicket fell with the score on 58 after only 9.2 overs. Sivakeerthi Kumarathas top scoring with 20.

In reply, Spencer cruised to victory and the County Finals by five wickets. James Smith’s 25 not out the top score of their 59 for 1 off 9.2 overs seeing them through, where they will now join the top two teams from the Outer section league, Wimbledon CC and Hampton Wick Royal CC.
