Weybridge sneak to narrow win

Weybridge under 12s narrowly overcame the Twenty20 Cricket Surrey Academy "C" team on Sunday evening by 9 runs to record their first win of the competition. Batting first, Weybridge scored 104-4 off their 12 overs thanks in the main to 35 not out from opener Freddie Huntington. In reply, 59 extras was the mainstay of the Twenty20 innings as no batsman managed to get past 11 runs, and 4 run outs was the death knell for the chase. In the older competition and another close match, Chobham beat Twenty20 Cricket Surrey Academy "A" by 3 wickets with 2 balls to spare. The Academy scored 105-5 off their 12 overs, Aarush Pattar taking 1-13 off his 3 very economical overs. In reply, Chobham opener Wil

It will run from 20th-24th July and will follow the same format as we have run in the UK since 2008 & Basel since 2013, with a mixture of training and hard ball matches at the excellent facilities on site. The camp is open to all players in Switzerland but also across Europe, including the UK. Bookings can be made online and places are limited.

Group A played last week and Group B, at Chessington School, is this Thursday. On Friday we have a meeting with the Kent Cricket Board to discuss Deaf Cricket in Kent. Surrey Slam Junior Indoor Cricket League matches tonight

Tonight's Surrey Slam Junior Indoor Cricket League sees Twenty20 Cricket Surrey Academy "C" team against Weybridge under 12s. A win for the Academy could see them leap into first place on run rate ahead of Egham/Chertsey who won last weekend. In the under 14 competition, there is the final league match before the knockout play-off phase with closely matched Twenty20 Cricket Surrey Academy "A" against Chobham. The winners will secure 2nd place. You can follow the competitions on Play-Cricket.

Egham/Chertsey U12 move top

Egham/Chertsey's combined under 12s moved to the top of the Surrey Slam Junior Indoor Cricket League under 12 competition with a narrow win over Twenty20 Cricket Academy "D" team. The Academy fell just 12 runs short chasing 115 to win with 2 wickets in had. Egham/Chertsey's 114 all out ironically was underpinned by Twenty20 Academy player James Pearson who made 40 not out and Jake Pooley, son of former Middlesex player Jason Pooley, who scored 34. Siddarth Pillai starred with the ball for the Twenty20 Cricket Academy taking 2-16 off 2 overs. In reply, Matt Andrews (24) and Max Corney (21no) got the Academy off to a great start but tight bowling from Egham/Chertsey meant they just couldn't ge

The Week Ahead

The first MCC Foundation Waverley Hub session starts tomorrow night at RGS Guildford School following last week's trials. Nearly 80 players were trialed last week and whittled down to 47 attendees over three 1 hour sessions. It's refreshing to see how much state school talent there is out there but frustrating to see that their own school provision is generally below average. Secondary state school cricket is still a long way behind where it could be. We hope to work with more schools in the same way as we do at Ernest Bevin College and Chessington School to improve the cricket provision. Later this week we are in Northampton meeting the cricket board there to discuss Deaf and other Disabili

We will be testing them all on batting, bowling and fielding disciplines so we can see where they are at currently and monitor improvements over the coming months and years. Tuesday sees the start of the MCC Foundation Hub we are running at RGS Guildford School. Around 80 youngsters aged U12-U15 are trialling for 48 places in the free scheme which will start the following week for 10 weeks. We are really looking forward to see what talent is on show.
